Blow Hole (Boat Dive)

The Blow Hole is one of 4 on the southern Great Barrier Reef and features a unique structure. A five metres wide vertical shaft plunges down through reef to a depth of 15 metres, then angles into a horizontal tunnel about 12 metres in length, taking on the shape of a huge cave (see map).

Most times the Blow Hole cave is populated by millions of schooling cardinal fish, also living either inside or near its entrance are barramundi, well marked angel fish, fearsome looking moray eels, wobbygongs, stingrays and turtles.

Hero’s Cave (Boat Dive)

Named after a Japanese scuba diver who first discovered the location. Hero’s Cave lies at a depth of 26 metres on the eastern side of Elliot, inhabited by millions of cardinal fish. Soft corals decorate its walls whilst gorgonia fans flower around the entrance. Inside on its ceiling live numerous red banded coral shrimp and butterfly cod, also a family of carpet sharks have taken up residence, whilst at the rear its structure is such that a small bubble cave has formed. Excellent dive, good for silhouette photography.

The Docks (Boat Dive)

A cut away in the outer reef face similar in shape to a square shipping dock. Nearby terrain is a maze of soft corals and gorgonia sea fans populated by many species of smaller colourful fish life. Big boulders litter the area; one in particular takes on the shape of a boat.

The Tube (Boat Dive)

A small tunnel 15 metres in length narrowing midway, then opening up to a larger cave. Lots of stinging hydroids on walls and ceiling, many smaller fish seek protection at its rear, whilst larger species live near its entrance. Depth approximately 26 metres.
