Although communities up and down the coast may be fairly isolated, the local residents are not without their fun and games. Popular events like the Seventeen Seventy Festival, rodeos, surf carnivals and the hysterically amusing Baffle Creek Regatta Raft race keep everyone, visitors and locals, on their social toes.

Seventeen Seventy Festival

Held annually in May, the Festival is organised by an association with everyone else getting in the act. There is a parade with decorated floats, horses and buggies, participants and spectators in colonial dress.

The parade arrives on the foreshore of Seventeen Seventy and culminates in the re-enactment of Cook's landing. All during the day live stage entertainment with local and imported artists perform while children compete in crazy games like the 'billy cart derby', first having built their 'machines' at home.
