The quaintly named Seventeen Seventy (in honour of Captain James Cook's first landing on Queensland shores in 1770) and sister town to Agnes Water, is situated on Round Hill Creek in the lee of the peninsula. A Mecca for fishing, mud-crabbing and water sports, it is also the departure point for the Great Barrier Reef which is only one and a half hours by boat away. Recently World Heritage listed to ensure the protection of its flora and fauna, beaches and fore-shores, so everyone and future generations can enjoy the natural beauty which, without doubt, pleased the eyes of those early explorers.

Families with children
The beaches on the lee side of the Seventeen Seventy peninsula are havens for families with children. Safe clean water and soft golden sand makes the beaches a wonderland to explore. Shells, soldier crabs, pelicans and many more sea birds can be observed just under your very eye.

The many rocky outcrops are ideal for fishing. For the more adventurous there is plenty of opportunities for snorkelling to see a fascinating underwater world.
